The Shivalingam is the symbol of Bhagvan Shiva. It is without a beginning or end and depicts the abstract form of Bhagvan Shiva. It is put on a base we call Jalhari, which symbolizes Mother Parvati. Together they symbolize the creation. Combined together the Shivalingam emits waves of Divine Energy, Knowledge, Devotion, Renunciation and Peace, which multiplies on the day of Maha Shivaratri. Hence worship of Shivalingam on Maha Shivaratri is very auspicious. By sitting in front of the Shivalingam or touching it we receive all these divine vibrations.
